How does the provider support the children in negotiating sharing?

She offers options to help the child being asked to share to feel that she can make decisions about how it will happen.  She speaks with empathy to the child who wants a turn and acknowledges that it is difficult to wait by letting him know that she is almost done.

How is the provider supporting the children’s language development?

She helps both children to talk about sharing together by asking questions and prompting them to say how they feel and what is happening and modeling when needed.  She responds to what the children say so that they know she has heard them and understood them.

Filmed in a license-exempt family child care home.
